Description
Thooyamalli Ven Pongal Mix — a soft, fragrant ven pongal mix built on organically grown Thooyamalli with moong dal and whole spices. The "pure jasmine" rice cooks into gentle, aromatic pongal that's easy on the stomach — festival comfort on an ordinary morning.

Ingredients
Thooyamalli Rice, Moong dal, Black Pepper, Jeera, Dried ginger, Curry leaves. Organically grown · 100% vegetarian · no preservatives, colours or flavourings.

Usage info — How to make Thooyamalli ven pongal

  1. In a pressure cooker, add a tablespoon of ghee and hing.
  2. Add one cup of Pongal mix to the ghee and toast slightly.
  3. Add 4 cups of hot water to the toasted mix and bring to a nice boil, stirring constantly.
  4. Pressure cook for 4–5 whistles. Let it cool down.
  5. Open, add salt, and garnish with cashews fried in ghee.

Ghee or oil?

Ghee is traditional and worth it — the toasting step is what gives pongal its aroma.

Can I make sweet pongal with this?

This is a savoury ven pongal blend, but you can absolutely dissolve jaggery in at the end for a chakkarai-style twist.

Why pressure cook 4–5 whistles?

Heritage rice and whole moong dal need a little longer to reach that soft, spoonable comfort texture.
